Insight on Kendell Williams' 4302 points from Coach Kyprianou - 2014 Cherry and Silver
by Adam Schnieder/RunnerSpace.com

Kendell Williams is a Freshman from Kell High school in Marietta, Geogia at the University of Georgia and she is one of the top US high school female recruits in several years.  She won Gatorade national athlete of the year last year.  She was the #1 track recruit for the '13-14 season and Georgia beat Oregon and others to sigh her.  She has won 10 New Balance National Titles.  She has the US Junior record in the Heptathlon at 5578 points (2012 World Juniors - she was Athlete of the Meet)

Petros Kyprianou is one of the top combined event coaches in the country and has quickly developed US and international athletes in the multis and all four jumping events into some of the top collegians in the country.  Last year Georgia was second in the Bill Webb cup (2-3-4 person combined events top marks) and first in 2011. Last year he had three athletes compete at the world championships (Ryan Grinnell in TJ, Maicel Uibo in Decathlon and Lucie Ondraschkova in the Heptathlon).  He has coached

Kendell and I talked about this opening pent a few times and our main focus was to be relaxed and have fun doing it..she has put in the work during the fall so I told her she's prepared to do this. Obviously we are hoping to improve thru the season but this was a great opener. Before the hurdles as she usually does Kendell was getting in her her zone and trying to get mentally ready for her first collegiate multi event. I won't hide the fact that she looked a little nervous but that's what prepared athletes feel like before a meet. Her hurdle start wasn't ideal but she picked up speed after the 3rd hurdle and finished with a pent record of 8.40. Following her firSt attempt in high jump she was more relaxed and started to enjoy the moment. I can honestly say that's when she started to show us her God given talent and the good pedigree given by her father Blane Williams. Her high jump was It was fun to watch and a blessing to see her enjoy the moment. This is what college athletics is all about, enjoy and perform! Shot wasn't anything extraordinary compared to what she has been throwing at practice but still a personal best! The 'party' was then Taken to the long jump runway where her and her teammate Lucie Ondraschkova had a little friendly rival moment and both ended up with a monster indoor personal best. Consequently, the 'party' had to be interrupted where they had to run the 800m:-) Kendell has struggled in the past in this event and still need to learn how to pace herself especially at 5000 feet altitude. She did get a personal best time but not what I think she can run..the adjustment phase is over and now it's time for more fun times and hard work.

During an ESPN documentary writers and fellow athletes described Jackie Joyner Kersee athletic profile full of grace and elegance. I will dare to say this about Kendell as well and hoping she takes every minute of those experiences and use it as a brick in her own development.

I knew it'd only be a matter of time before she made an impact on the collegiate level.
