Bronco Women Win at Roy GriakPublished by Boise State SID on September 26, 2015 FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. – The No. 20 Boise State women’s cross country team made a national statement Saturday afternoon by winning the 30th annual Roy Griak Invitational with 37 points, giving the Broncos a 79-point victory over the defending national champions, No. 6 Michigan State (116). “It was outstanding,” head coach Corey Ihmels said. “Probably one of the best performances we’ve had as a program. It’s an exciting time for the women’s team, and we are really looking forward to continual improvement throughout the season.” The 37 points is the fifth-lowest team score for a women’s team in Roy Griak Invitational history. The Broncos were led once again by Allie Ostrander, who finished in second place after finishing the 6-kilometer course in 21:09.4. With three freshmen, a sophomore and a junior providing the counting scores for Boise State, the Blue and Orange won the meet with the youngest competing roster in the field. The Broncos decisively claimed the victory with two other top-10 performances to join Ostrander. Freshman Annie Bothma took third (21:18.6), sophomore Minttu Hukkafinished in sixth place (21:34.0) and freshman Brenna Peloquin placed 11th (21:45.7). Junior Anna Holdiman earned the last score when she finished in 17th (21:58.7). Peloquin and Holdiman still earned just 10 and 16 points, respectively, in the team standings for Boise State because Baylor’s Maggie Montoya took ninth as an individual, and therefore did not earn any points for the Bears. Charlotte Corless ran exceptional as well, taking 23rd (22:12.2). Katy Wood finished in 65th place (22:56.1), Alexis Fuller clocked a 23:15.7 for 91st and Gracie Tostenson placed 133rd (23:51.7). Cal’s Bethan Knights won the individual title with a 20:53. On the men’s side, Michael Vennard paced the Broncos (143 points) to sixth place in the 23-team field by taking third individually after clocking a 24:58.0 on the 8-kilometer course. The sophomore stuck with the large lead pack from the beginning and gradually improved his position throughout the race. “The men did a nice job of getting out in position and battling,” Ihmels said. “They struggled a little in the middle, but they came back well at the end.
