[Cross Country] Kyle Anderson finishes 10th at NAIA National Championships, Danae Dracht 33rd

Comments

LAWRENCE, KS – It was a great day for Spring Arbor University Cross Country as Kyle Anderson came within six seconds of his career best effort in his biggest race and finished 10th in the NAIA National Championship Meet in Lawrence, KS on Saturday morning.  Danae Dracht finished 33rd out of 319 runners in the top 11% of the field.

Anderson time of 24:48 earned him a spot as an NAIA All-American for the third time, a first ever for Spring Arbor University.

"That is a huge accomplishment on the national level" said Head Coach, Dante Ottolini. "It was a gift from God to have the honor and privilege to coach Kyle and have him part of the Spring Arbor University program.  His accomplishments as an athlete and scholar were impressive but what is most impressive about Kyle is not what he does but how he does it.  Kyle is a man of God that shines bright.  He will leave behind him a legacy and a stronger program, team and coach.  Kyle is one of those special people that God touches our lives with to show us more of Him.  Kyle is running a great race and is now headed off to Africa for student teaching, I will not see him for this part if the race but look forward to seeing him at the finish line in heaven.  Go Kyle, God is with you!"

Anderson made a run for the Championship and was leading after the 4K mark with the one mile split of 4:46, and two mile split of 9:40.  At the end, there was some discomfort and it wasn't allowing him to finish at 100%.

"This season is a testament to God's great power," said Anderson.  "This season began the complete opposite of what I was hoping and the only thing God told me through it all was 'I have not given you permission to give up hope.'

Dracht's time of 18:35 was stronger towards the finish as she was back in the field in approximately 60th place at the mile with a split of 5:30.  She passed 20-25 runners in the second half of the race.

"Wow, what a race she ran," said Coach Billy Bippes. "Praise God, what a great day."
