Burnett and Clarke Earn Cross Country Runner of the Week HonorsPublished by
INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler runners Shelbi Burnett (Greenwood, Ind.) and Ross Clarke (Essex, England) have been named Horizon League Runners of the Week, for the week of Oct. 10 - Oct. 16. Burnett, a sophomore, posted her first top-10 individual finish of the season at the Eighth Annual Bradley Classic. She covered the 6K course in 21:13.31 to place seventh overall in a field of 230 runners and helped her team to a fourth place finish out of 21 teams. Fellow Bulldog Clarke took the individual men’s title at the Bradley Classic with a time of 24:20.9. The time is the seventh-fastest in the eight year history of the meet. The sophomore helped his team to a 9th place finish out of 19 teams. Butler will take this weekend off before heading to Cleveland, Ohio for the Horizon League Championships on Oct. 29.
Other Top Performers for the Week: Gina Valgoi, Loyola (Jr.) - Valgoi had another great performance at the Bradley Classic, finishing second among individual runners with a time of 20:59. She helped Loyola to an 11th place team finish at the meet. Jake Reilly, Milwaukee (Jr.) - The junior finished the 8K Bradley Classic with a time of 24:59.2 for fourth place and helped Milwaukee to an eighth place team finish. He shaved 40 seconds off his finish time from last year at the same course. Tyler Hinckley, UIC (Sr.) - Hinckley completed the Bradley Classic course in 25:20.1 to take 16th place out of 188 runners. Samantha Hamilton, Youngstown State (Jr.) - Hamilton competed at the Penn State National meet over the weekend and finished 19th out of 268 runners. Her 6K time of 22:03 helped her team to a 12th place finish at the meet.
