Cross country squads compete at NCAA Northeast Regional Meet

MADISON, Conn.—Sophomore Collin Frost and senior Rachel Miura were the top Binghamton finishers at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, which were held on Friday at Hammonassett State Park. In the team standings, the Bearcat men were 28th of 34 squads while the women were 26th out of 37 teams.

Frost was 117th overall (out of 239 runners), covering the men’s 10,000 meter course in a time of 32:42. Fellow sophomore Jesse Garn was 135th (32:53) while freshman Ethan Hausamann was 155th (33:18). Completing the scoring for Binghamton were sophomore Matt Johnson in 164th place (33:32) and junior Chris Fernandez in 189th place (35:44).

Mitch Goose of Iona won the men’s race in a time of 30:04. The Gaels also won the team title with 45 points, followed by Columbia (72) and Syracuse (73).

Miura, meanwhile, placed 109th overall, completing the women’s 6,000-meter course in a time of 22:09. Junior Caitlin Jelinek was 134th (22:30), freshman Lizze Greiner was 145th (22:48) followed by fellow freshmen Naomi Barnett in 166th place (23:08) and Shannon O’Hara in 191st place.

There were 253 runners in the women’s race, which was captured by Abbey D’Agostino of Dartmouth in a time of 19:51. Providence won the team title with 46 points, followed by UConn (67 points) and Cornell (118).

Up next for Binghamton is the season-ending ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park next Saturday at noon.
