[Cross Country] IWU Cross Country Set for NAIA National Championships on Saturday

Comments

MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University will have representation in both NAIA Cross Country National Championship races on Saturday, November 21 in Vancouver, Washington.

The women's cross country team will compete for a national title while the men will be represented by individual runner sophomore Ethan Naylor.

Concordia (Ore.) University and the Cascade Collegiate Conference are hosting the national meet which will be contested at the Fort Vancouver Historical Site. The men's race will commence at 1:30 p.m. ET and the women run at 2:45 p.m. ET.

The Wildcat women earned an at-large bid to the national meet following a second place finish at the Mid-Central College Conference Championship on November 7 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. With only the conference champion earning an automatic bid, Indiana Wesleyan relied on their No. 19 ranking in the final NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll to acquire the at-large selection.

In the women's meet there will be 32 teams and 117 individual qualifiers represented. Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University is the defending national champion and is ranked No. 1 in the country this season.

With the men's cross country team finishing third at the MCC Championship, only Naylor advanced to the national meet with his sixth place finish. The top five runners in the conference meet not on a team advancing to the national meet earns a spot in the race.

Thirty-two teams and 102 individuals will compete in the men's national meet on Saturday. Malone (Ohio) College has taken claim to the last two national championships and will enter the race ranked No. 2 in the country, one point behind top-ranked Southern Oregon University.
