[Men's Indoor Track & Field] Senior sprints to two personal record s at GVSU

(Allendale, Mich.) After a week of final exams, seven Cornerstone T&F men put their remaining energy to good use at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open.

Senior captain, Eric Schroeder led three freshman sprinters, earning two personal bests. After advancing to the finals in the 60 meter dash, Schroeder placed tenth in the finals with a PR 7.17. Freshman, Jon Brinks lowered his best to 7.28, taking 19th in the prelims. Classmates Tyler Kubik and Deon Fox finished 26th (7.40) and 32nd (7.59) respectively.    Fox advanced to the finals in the 60 meter hurdles with a new best 8.70. He placed ninth in the finals in 8.79.

Brinks and Schroeder also ran PR's in the 200 meters. Eric improved to 22.46 for fourth in the race and fourth on the CU all-time list. Brinks finished 29th in 23.68 with Kubik 31st in 23.78.

In his first time at the 600 meter distance, Spencer Perry led wire-to-wire getting the win in 1:24.08. The junior heptathlete also improved his best in the shot put to 37' 4 ½".

In other field events, Logan Norton tied for third in the pole vault, clearing 14' 2" and Mike Mahon finished 11th in the 35 pound weight throw with a 43' 11 ¾" effort.

The season resumes January 11 at the Central Michigan University Open.
