[Women's Outdoor Track & Field] Lady Cards Perform Well Against D1 Competition, Simmons ...

Comments
(Saturday April 2nd, Lansing, MI) - The Women's Track and Field team competed at the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State University on Saturday. Despite the cold temperature, rain and the wind the Lady Cards performed well. Getting things off to a great start was freshmen, Brittany Simmons placing 6th in the long jump with a school record jump of 5.07 or 16'8". She then ran the 100 meter dash in a good first effort for us, running a time of 13.5. She rounded off the day with a 4th place finish in the triple jump, jumping a school record jump of 10.18, or 33'5".  Unfortuneately on her second to last triple jump she suffered an ankle sprain and couldn't continue on, but fortunately she had already broken the school record.

"Brittany had an outstanding day for us today," said Coach Steve Montgomery. "Two school records in the jumping events and a good effort in the 100 meter, I couldn't ask for anything more. The ankle sprain seemed pretty bad though, and we are really hoping that she will be able to heal quickly and be able to compete again soon," he added.

Also in the jumping events was junior, Adora Morrow. She placed 6th in the triple jump with a personal best of 9.63, or 31'8". She also jumped 4.54 or 14'11" in the long jump. Additionally, she ran a personal best in the 200 meter, running a time of 27.87, placing 8th.

"Adora really stepped it up in the 200 today," said Assistant Coach Julie Montgomery. "We were really pleased to see that," she added.

Fresh back from a study abroad was junior, Chloe Metcalf competing in the javelin throw. Though she'd been gone the last few months, her form looked as good as ever. She took 12th place with a throw of 21.99, or 72'2".

Competing in the distance events was freshmen, Molly Rathje. "Molly ran well in both of her races today," said Coach Montgomery. "She had to compete against some of the premiere Division I runners in the state and the region for that matter," she added.  "That can be a little daunting. I thought Molly handled it well."

Overall it was a good day for the women's team. Next week the women travel to Ferris State University for the Bulldog Open.
