LSU Maintains Lead in Track and Field News' Women's Dual Meet Rankings - TrackSuperfan.comPublished by
LSU Maintains Lead in Track and Field News' Women's Dual Meet Rankings
After narrowly defeating Texas A&M and Arkansas two weeks ago, the LSU Tigers maintain their top spot in the second biweekly update to Track and Field News magazine's women's collegiate dual meet rankings.
The full rankings, with dual meet records in parenthesis:
1. LSU (2-0)
2. Texas A&M (1-1)
3. Arkansas (1-2)
4. Kansas (2-0)
5. Nebraska (0-0)
6. Michigan (1-0)
7. Notre Dame (3-0)
8. Michigan State (2-2)
9. Indiana State (4-0)
10. Eastern Michigan (5-0)
11. Kent State (1-0)
12. Alabama (0-0)
13. Kansas State (3-0)
14. South Florida (1-2)
15. Indiana (1-0)
16. Purdue (0-2)
17. Grand Valley State (2-1)
18. North Dakota State (2-0)
19. Harvard (0-0)
20. Princeton (3-0)
That three-way battle between LSU, Texas A&M and Arkansas was very close, with just 4½ points separating the three teams, and the rankings reflect this by placing those three at the very top.
A notable entry into the top twenty is Grand Valley State, ranked #1 in Division II and the defending Division II national champions. Last Saturday the Lakers finished second in a tight quadrangular meet, just 4½ points behind #10 Eastern Michigan. They are the first Division II team to make an appearance in the TFN rankings.
The two remaining indoor dual meets featuring one or more ranked teams are as follows:
Saturday, February 9
#12 Alabama and North Carolina at #5 Nebraska
#19 Harvard and Yale at #20 Princeton
The next women's rankings will be released on Wendesday, February 13. The next men's rankings will be released on Wednesday, February 6. Final indoor rankings for both men and women will be released on Monday, February 18.
To be considered for the indoor rankings, a team must compete in at least one dual meet during the indoor season, using TFN's definition of a dual meet as a scored meet between four or fewer teams. Rankings will be kept during the outdoor season for an indoor/outdoor composite.
T&FN’s dual meet rankings, compiled by Jesse Squire (www.tracksuperfan.com) are a revival of annual rankings compiled from 1970 to 1995. A full compilation of past dual meet rankings can be found at tracksuperfan.com.
