Cougars Prominent on Spring 2016 CCAA All-Academic TeamsPublished by
 SAN RAMON, Calif. The Cal State San Marcos Department of Athletics had 28 student-athletes named to their respective 2016 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic teams, the conference announced Friday. The women's and men's track & field teams each had seven honorees, while baseball and softball each had six. The men's golf team earned two selections. CSUSM tied for third in the conference along with Cal Poly Pomona with 28 selections, behind UCSD (42) and Chico State (41). A total of 56 different Cougars qualified for CCAA All-Academic teams during the 2015-16 academic year. 11 student-athletes earned the distinction on multiple teams. In order to qualify, student-athletes must be of sophomore academic standing or higher, hold at least a cumulative 3.3 GPA and must have competed in a conference-sponsored sport. In total during Spring 2016, 56.3% of all student-athletes had over a 3.0 GPA. 31.1% of student-athletes had a GPA of 3.5 or better, and seven earned the Mangrum Award for sporting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
