Cross Country: Strong Performances Help Lead Ragin' Cajuns At SBC Championships

Comments

DOTHAN, Ala. Stanley Limoh, Beau Robinson and Matt Rice each earned all-conference honors on the men's side while Courtney Musgrove earned all-conference honors on the women's side as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns competed at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday on the Troy University Dothan Campus.

Louisiana finished second overall on the men's side its best finish since claiming the 2004 title while the women's team finished ninth overall.

UT Arlington claimed the men's title in the 8K race with 45 points, followed by Louisiana (66), Texas State (88), Appalachian State (97) and South Alabama (129). Little Rock (157) was sixth overall with Arkansas State (179), Troy (179), ULM (211) and Coastal Carolina (226) rounding out the 10-team field.

"Very proud of the guys, they ran hard and got a great result, but in the end UTA was just a little bit better than us today," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "Stanley and Beau both ran great races and showed they are two of the best in the conference with out any doubts, and Matt Rice really came through for the team earning his fourth all-conference honor of his career."

Appalachian State claimed the women's 5K title with 43 points followed by Coastal Carolina (56), South Alabama (79), Georgia State (112) and UT Arlington (141). Arkansas State (168), Georgia Southern (181), Texas State (183), Louisiana (217) and Troy (235) rounded out the top 10 with ULM (291) and Little Rock (309) rounding out the 12-team field.

Limoh, who was named the SBC Freshman of the Year, finished second overall for Louisiana in the men's race, crossing the finish line in 24:25.4. Robinson, who finished second in last year's meet for the Ragin' Cajuns, was third overall (24:31.5) with Rice (25:20.4) finishing 12th overall and earning All-SBC honors for the fourth time.

Dylan Heck (26:05.8) finished 23rd overall for Louisiana with Bryce Robinson (26:09.8) finishing 26th, Cole Stafford 49th (27:27.1) and freshman Marvin Hebenbrock 52nd (27:34.3).

Musgrove finished 14th overall for the Ragin' Cajuns women's team, crossing the finish line in 18:52.2 to earn all-SBC honors for the first time. Lindsay LaGarde finished 23rd overall for Louisiana (19:29.0) with Courtney Broussard (20:12.8) finishing 46th, Kaylei Esfeller (20:58.5) 59th, Hailey Hesterman (22:14.7) 75th, Amber Campbell (24:46.0) 81st and D'Sharee Collins (27:55.9) 82nd.

"The women's result wasn't the result we wanted, but with two of our top five runners out of the lineup due to injuries, it was just too much for us to overcome," Badeaux said. "I'm very proud of them for just giving us everything they had for the whole season and I feel their future is very bright with the core of this team returning next year. Courtney (Musgrove) ran a great race earning her first all conference team."

Louisiana will return to action on Nov. 11 when it competes in the NCAA South Central Regional meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
