Tiger cross country ends season at GPAC championships

SEWARD, Neb. The Dakota Wesleyan University cross country teams wrapped up the 2013 season Saturday afternoon at the Great Plains Athletic Conference championships in Seward, Neb. Freshman Kellan Willet paced the Tiger men and Haley Brunke was the top finisher for the DWU women.

Willet finished 26th to lead the DWU men Saturday afternoon. He completed the race in 27:38.91. Trace Tjeerdsma took 65th for Dakota Wesleyan in 29:19.81 and Jeff Sahli was right behind in 68th in a time of 29:23.32. Freshman Jared Stearns finished 83rd in 31:13.23 and Brent Matter took 95th in 38:53.96.

Morningside College won the GPAC men s title, and the Mustangs Garret Ehlers was the individual winner in 26:01.9.

Brunke finished in 20:21.93 for the women, good for 35th place. Skylar Forgey finished 66th in 21:33.57, Jamie Geho took 71st in 21:59.71, Jessica Neises finished 74th in 22:07.58 and Nicole Court-Menendez finished 78th in 22:19.13. Heather Banister also competed for the Dakota Wesleyan women and took 94th in 28:37.67.

Dordt College claimed the women s team title and Mount Marty s Katie Smelker was the individual champion in 18:12.16.
