INDIANAPOLIS --- Butler sophomore Callum Hawkins took 26th place overall at the Division I NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Monday.

Hawkins covered the 10K LaVern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center with a time of 29:56.4. The finish earned him All-America honors for the first time in his career. Hawkins became Butler's first All-American since 2008, when Andy Baker last won the recognition.

Earlier this season, the Glasgow, Scotland native was named the 2011 Men's Athlete of the Year in the Great Lakes Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  He's the first Bulldog to receive the regional award, which has been presented since 2007. Hawkins won the individual title at the 2011 Horizon League Championships, clocking a time of 25:43.

Fellow teammate Ross Clarke was also on hand to compete at the race. Clarke finished with a time of 31:05.6 for 136th place out of more than 250 competitors. He finished in second place at the Horizon League Championships with a time of 26:06.

Wisconsin won the 2011 NCAA Cross Country title with 97 points, defeating two-time winner Oklahoma State (139 points).

Butler will be back in action at the beginning of December when it kicks off its indoor track and field season.
