TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State cross country teams (Men-No. 28/Women- No.11 ) will bring awareness to breast cancer while also hosting its lone home meet of the 2009 season Saturday, October 10. The FSU Invitational will be held at the Seminoles new home course, the Apalachee Regional course. Saturday’s meet will feature a men’s and women’s collegiate race, boys and girls high school run and an open 5K run for men and women of all ages.

"It is finally here,” FSU women’s head coach Karen Harvey said. “Our first official meet on the new cross country course. It is exciting for everyone who put in countless hours to make the course and the meet possible. It is a chance for families to come watch their kid’s race in Tallahassee."

The men’s 8K collegiate run will open the early morning at 7:45 a.m. with the women following at 8:30 a.m. in the 5K. The high school races will start soon after at 9:00 a.m. with the boys 5K and 9:30 a.m. for the girls 5K. The open races will begin at 10:40 a.m. for all men and 11:00 a.m. for all women.

FSU men’s head coach Bob Braman will send redshirt sophomores Tyler PriceDavid Huckaby and Daniel Silva to lead the pack with redshirt freshmen Jacob Brooks and Nathan Duby following.

"We've been consistently top 30 now in every early-season poll and I look forward to the championship season where I think we'll really move up the rankings,” Coach Braman said.

Price led the Garnet and Gold last season at the home meet with an 11th place finish while other Seminoles posted strong performances.

Slated to compete for the Seminole women are veterans Christina Woytalewicz and Bree McArdle alongside sophomores Emily NessChristal WashingtonKara TaylorKacey Gibson and Jennifer Dunn.

"We are racing a few from the Notre Dame squad to give them another shot at getting the rust out,” Coach Harvey said. “We will also use this race as a gauge for when the staff chooses our top 10 for the ACC team. Our entire FSU strider team will be racing, and they certainly have been waiting for this race and training hard for it."

At the 2008 meet Dunn led the Seminoles to a fourth place team finish as her and Washington placed in the top 15.

The Seminoles will team up to raise awareness of breast cancer by sporting pink ribbons on their jerseys. Fans who donate a minimum of $10 will receive a commemorative t-shirt and an online auction will be held at Seminoles.com with a `Pink' themed t-shirt that will be autographed by Coach Harvey, Coach Braman and the women’s team. Donations of any amount will be accepted.

Results from the meet will be posted on www.seminoles.com.
