[Indoor Track & Field] Indoor Track Sets 4 New School Records and 7 New Personal Records at ...

Comments

(Allendale, MI) - The Cardinals soared into Grand Valley State University for one last tune up meet before the WHAC Championship on February 22nd.  The team is growing in confidence and focus and it showed in a host of both personal and school records at GVSU.

Leading the flock were the Cardinal throwers.  Freshman Madison Lutzke (Benzie, MI) and sophomore Adam Koch (Fort Wayne, IN) set new school records for CUAA.  Lutzke putted a shot of 10.55m and felt confident that if a couple of throws would have stayed fair she could have managed an even greater distance.  For the men, Koch set the school record in the weighted throw, tossing the weight 13.09m.

Freshman Molly Jarvis (Livonia, MI) added to the collection of school records in the 60m hurdles. She ran a time of 10.54 seconds.  Four gentlemen joined her on the records' wall as Caleb Mims (Southfield, MI), Zack Zoltowski (Livonia, MI), Brandon Crayne (Riverview, MI) and Max Monton (Pentwater, MI) broke the 12 year old 4x400 meter relay record, with a time of 3:31.98.  They accomplished this feat without even running a clean race.  Mims was jostled and cut off by an opposing team, having to break stride and regroup on his way around the track.

Other notable accomplishments in this tune up were the races run by Julia Szuba (Livonia, MI) and Leigh McRobbie (Brighton, MI).  Szuba ran a PR in the 1 mile with a time of 5:36.79 while McRobbie set a personal record in the 3000m with a time of 12:39.29.

Not to be out done the men had their share of personal records as well.  Mims ran his personal best indoor in the 200m, sprinting to a time of 22:86.  Timothy Grimm (Leonidas, MI) was a beast in the 800m with a PR of 2:05.68 and junior Alex Kitchin (Flushing, MI) set two personal records, one in the 1 mile run and the other in the 3000m, running a 4:45.38 and 9:35.79 respectively.

Rounding out the PRs for the men was Robert Duff Jr. (Crosswell, MI) who leaped his way to a new personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 11.36m or 38 feet 4 inches.

In the final week leading up to the WHAC championship the team acknowledges that they have to do even better if they hope to outperform the top teams in the conference.
