[Women's Outdoor Track & Field] Women's Track & Field start outdoor season winning the ...

BEREA, KY – The SAU Women's Track & Field team headed south for warmer climates and competed in the Berea University Spring Invitational.  The trip was well worth the effort as the Lady Cougars took home the Championship grabbing 178 points in the meet.  Host Berea University was second with 157 points and Georgetown (KY) was third with 115 points.

Several Cougars won events for Spring Arbor and for the first time in a long time, SAU collected 42 points from throwing events with the addition of freshmen Grace Salle and Rebecca Stefaniak.

In the 100m dash, Amanda Luurtsema took first with a time of 12.87 and Jessica Lee was right behind her in second clocking a 12.97.  Luurtsema also finished second in the 200m with a time of 27.27.

Kelly Tripp took first in the 400m with a one lap time of 1:02.27 to collect 10 points to the Spring Arbor cause.

Putting her sixth on Spring Arbor's All-Time record list in the 100m Hurdles was Ellie Reynolds.  Reynolds navigated the length of the track and obstacles in 16.73.  Reynolds also placed second in the 400m Hurdles.

The 4x100m relay team of Reynolds, Luurtsema, Jessica Czinder, and Jessica Lee cruised to a first place finish with a blistering time of 50.01 which placed third on SAU's All-Time list.  In the 4x400m Relay,  Andrea Finkbeiner, Nikki Redman, Reynolds, and Andrea Bogert was second in the event in 4:32.43

Kayla Finkbeiner cleared 4'10.25" in the High Jump which earned her a second place spot on the podium and Vanessa Rogers continued to dominate the Pole Vault taking the top spot with a vault of 10'6" for her first vault of the outdoor season.

Andrea Finkbeiner jumped the farthest in the Long Jump event with a leap of 16'4.5" and Kelly Tripp traveled a distance of 33'0.25" in the Triple Jump to capture that event for Spring Arbor.

The Throwers made the show for the Cougars garnering 42 points with Grace Salle taking second in the Shot with a toss  of 31'3.25", and second in the Discus with a throw of 94'4".  Salle also took second in the Hammer Throw clearing the 100' mark with a toss of 102' 0".  Each of those events earned Salle eight points and the Hammer Throw was good for the third spot on SAU's list.  Salle earned 6th (1 point) in the Javelin.

Rebecca Stefaniak finished fifth in the Shot with a distance of 28'10.25" and two points, sixth in the Discus with a throw of 65'6" and one point, third in the Hammer Throw (89'5" and 6 points), and was second in the Javelin Toss with a toss of 106"7" and taking eight points for the team.

The Ladies return to action on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Huntington University Invitational in Huntington, IN.  The meet has a start time of 12:00 pm.
