[Women's Track & Field] Track & Field Hitting Its Stride

Comments

Chicago, IL - The Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks traveled on Saturday, April 5th to University of Chicago's campus for the Ted Haydon Invitational.

"I am very pleased with the way our athletes competed today" said Head Coach Calin Hantau."I was not expecting to have great results at this meet, due to the training cycle we are following right now.  We represented IIT very well today and I am really excited and looking forward to see how well we will perform in the second half of the season."

University of Illinois – Chicago, Loyola University, Elmhurst College, Roosevelt University, Judson University, Robert Morris University, Triton College and the host, University of Chicago, were amongst IIT's opponents on Saturday.

Veronica Hannink had the highest finish on the women's side, with a 3rd place in the 100m Hurdles. She turned around and competed in the very next event scheduled, the 400m, and finished in 8th place. "Anne Crotteau had the performance of the day on the women's side. She raced very smart and cut more than 30 seconds off her previous personal best in the 5,000m".

"I'm pleased with the way our ladies ran today. Greta Zola and Amy Rice competed in 2 events each and turned some fine performances in both events".

"On the men's side, with no doubt, Joseph Yassin had the best day I could have asked for." Yassin started his day with a school record in the Hammer Throw, 28.63m. Since he was involved in all four throwing events, Hammer, Discus, Javelin and Shot Put, he was not able to compete in the Hammer Finals, and finished in 9th place. Joe went on to finish second in the Javelin Throw, behind his teammate, Jack Kosar and 3rd in the Shot Put. Yassin won his last event of the day, the Discus Throw, with a 39.30m effort.. He competed all day and managed to get more competitive as the day went on. It was very nice to see him and Jack go 1-2 in the Javelin. All the hard work that the Throwers are putting in is starting to pay off now".

Overall, the men's team finished 3rd overall behind University of Chicago and University of Illinois Chicago. Other top 3 performances were turned in by Teva Venet, Tyler Haag and Ethan Montague. Teva Venet continued his great season in the jumps, with a second place finish in the Triple. Ethan Montague and Tyler Haag finished 3rd in their events, both setting season bests, in the 1500m for Montague and the 400m for Haag.

The Scarlet Hawks will return to action on April 17th at Cougar Invite hosted by Concordia University – Chicago.
