[Men's Outdoor Track & Field] Mabe masters the Marathon

Comments

(Marion, Ind.) On the final day of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, the Cornerstone men added one more All-American as Travis Mabe placed seventh in the marathon.

The senior from Deford, MI covered the 26.2 mile distance in 2:31:40.90, a personal best by over nine minutes. "Travis has improved tremendously in this event the last three years," said coach Nate Van Holten. "He was 28th two years ago and fifteenth last year. He's worked incredibly hard and persevered when it would have been much easier to give up on the goal of being All-American. I'm very proud of him." Ben Foreman also lowered his PR, taking thirteenth in 2:34:17.90. Nathan Martin of Spring Arbor won the event, shattering the championship record by nearly two minutes in a solo run of 2:19:18.70. Marin also won the 10,000 meters on Thursday night and was chosen as the Outstanding Performer of the meet.

The Golden Eagles tallied seventeen points with five All-Americans to finish sixteenth in the field of 60 scoring teams. Indiana Tech took the team title with 72 points, ahead of Oklahoma Baptist's 68. The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference put four teams in the top 25 as Siena Heights scored 16.33 to finish seventeenth and Aquinas placed 24th with 14.
