[Men's & Women's Cross Country] Cross Country Teams Open Season with New Tradition!

Comments

(Adrian, MI) – Over the weekend the men and women's cross country teams opened their 2013 campaign by taking to the course at the Bulldog invite.  In the first prelude to conference competition the teams ran unattached, not yet earning the privilege of donning the Cardinal jersey.

First year head coach Jamie LaBrosse, commented on this new tradition saying, "the team has to work hard consistently in practice and be competitive on race day if they want to earn a jersey." Adding, "there is a new competitive spirit and team identity building and I'm excited for the season."

His enthusiasm for the season was enhanced as he watched the teams compete. On the women's side the freshmen class performed well.  Out of 43 total runners all the ladies finished within the first 30.  Leading the young class with an 8th place finish was Melaina Bent with a time of 21:58.  Rounding out the top ten was Brie Schofield, running 22:25.   Sidney Bosley and Kelsey Riley also had strong races.  They ran 24:13 and 24:16, finishing 25th and 27th respectively.

For the men junior Alex Kitchin ran a great race.  Coach LaBrosse was proud of the runner's performance and how he has bought in to the message of keeping your composure and focusing on the back half of the race.  Kitchin finished 7th crossing the finish line in 17:34.  He was followed by freshmen Andrew Gardner who finshed 18th and junior Timothy Grimm with a time of 20:07, who finished 40th out of the 60 runners who competed on the men's side.

The Athletes will get their jerseys this week and will compete in the Detroit Titan Invite at Cass Benton Park in Northville, MI this weekend.  Go Cards!
