BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second year in a row, Abbey D'Agostino of the Dartmouth women’s cross country team faced off against some of the top competition in the country at the Paul Short Invitational and came out on top with an overwhelming victory. The senior from Topsfield, Mass., cruised to a 26-second win over second-place Samantha Ginther from Indiana, finishing the Women’s Gold Race in 19:44. With the first-place finish from D’Agostino leading the way, the Big Green claimed second in a field of 48 teams with 125 points. In the 2012 meet, D’Agostino finished in 19:58 and bested the field by 24 seconds, a feat that was eclipsed on this day as her 2013 performance was even better. Georgetown took the top team spot, narrowly edging the Green and White with 112 total points. Sophomore Dana Giordano ran to a ninth-place finish in a field of 406 competitors with a time of 20:38 to her credit. Giordano’s finish came in the next wave of runners to cross the line following D’Agostino’s runaway win. Juniors Sarah Delozier and Alison Lanois were the third and fourth respective Dartmouth runners to finish on this day. Delozier completed the 6K course in 21:01, good for 22nd overall, while Lanois was 43rd in 21:19. Soon after Lanois’ finish, senior Hannah Rowe crossed in 21:26 to claim 50th overall and round out the Big Green scoring. After Dartmouth in the team scoring came Villanova, Cornell and Columbia in the top-five. Indiana, Harvard, West Virginia, Penn State and Alabama were the remaining teams that claimed places in the meet’s first 10 spots. In two races this season, D’Agostino has come out with the individual title both times. Her average margin of victory in those wins is 38.5 seconds after dominating the field at the Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 14 by an astounding 51 seconds. The team will now turn its attention to next Saturday afternoon in Boston when several members will represent the Big Green at the New England Championship.
