[Women's Cross Country] Women's Cross Country takes 8th at Michigan IntercollegiatePublished by
Hillsdale, MI -- The women's cross country team raced to a 8th place overall team finish this past Friday night at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Hillsdale College. The Michigan Intercollegiate Championships usually attracts many of the best teams from within the State of Michigan and this year unfortunately was an exception. With only 12 of the top division I, II, and III schools from Michigan, along with one NAIA school participating in the meet. However, this year's field was still loaded with some great competition as a total of 13 complete teams competed for the rights to say they are the best in Michigan. Running a strong race, the cougar women's team had three very specific goals to accomplish. One; as a total team to honor God with the gift of running that they have been blessed with. Two, to place within the top ten of the entire field for the second year in a row; and three, to cut the deficit of points they were behind Albion College who finished ahead of the team last week. Praise God all three goals were accomplished and the team ended-up finishing ahead of Albion. "It is truly a great blessing to have accomplished all of our goals today, said Coach Bill Bippes. "The ladies have been diligently training each and every day since the middle of June and it is wonderful to see their efforts rewarded." "The course was very hilly and challenging and the teams times unfortunately do not reflect the efforts the girls gave in the race, I am truly happy with each ladies performance today on a very challenging course!" The Cougars now have two weeks to prepare for the prestigious NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, hosted by Aquinas College at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids on Saturday, October 26th.
