Four Seminoles Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Team Honors
June 5, 2009 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – As extensive preparation continues for the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships, the Florida State track and field team has been honored for their excellence off the track. FSU posted four Seminoles to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams including Susan Kuijken and Lydia Willemse for the women and Gonzalo Barroilhet and Javier Garcia-Tunon on the men’s side. Garcia-Tunon leads the men with his fourth-consecutive award. Each Seminole is now eligible to earn All-America honors. "You always hear about our top athletes and it's gratifying to us when they're also our top students,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “These four are some of the top student-athletes in the county." One of track’s most studious athletes, Garcia-Tunon continues to raise the bar for the Seminoles. As a graduate student studying business administration, Garcia-Tunon has consistently earned a 4.0 grade point average throughout his semesters at FSU. The Miami, Fla., native has earned a spot on the esteemed list for four-consecutive years and will continue to be an example on and off the track for future Seminoles. As the only other athlete from the men’s team to make the list, Barroilhet is proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the classroom. Although the sophomore has been unable to compete during the outdoor season due to surgery, the Santiago, Chile, native has continued to focus on his studies in his management major.
